Tuesday

Started the day off with an assembly which our kids did brilliantly!! Some of the boys did a gumboot dance and the hockey girls did their famous war cry at the end of the assembly. Spent the rest of the day in Bath. The Roman Baths were very interesting and Bath itself is beautiful! The hockey girls are playing in a match this evening at a club called “Lydney” which is just outside Chepstow. We are all looking forward to Thorpe Park tomorrow!! The spirits are still high over here and a lot of us are not too excited about leaving this beautiful place, however there are those who are getting really excited to go home:) See you all at the airport on Thursday evening…x ciao

Monday 21/09

Hi everyone!

Its been a while since I last updated so I have a lot of news for you all.  It was the childrens first weekend with their hosts and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  Some made blackberry jam with their host families while others went cycling… On Saturday St Johns had a derby day against another school “clifton” some of our boys got to play rugby for St Johns but the coach kept taking them off the field as they were scoring too many tries and here in Wales its all about team spirit and the schools do not like to beat other schools by too many points which we are battling to understand?!? anyway…Bea got to play in a hockey match for St Johns too!  On Sunday the hockey girls travelled up to  Cardiff to play against a young club team as well as St Johns.  We beat the club team 3-0 and drew 0-0 against St Johns.  The girls are much stronger than a lot of these teams, so we definately doing something right back home:)

Today we went to Chepstow Castle and walked around inside, which was very interesting, loads of photos were taken and of course…souveneirs were bought!!  We then walked along Severn Bridge, which I am sure was a good 8km walk!! Very pretty here in Wales and very clean too!!  Tomorrow will be our first official school day, so it should be a lot of fun to follow the St Johns students around.  The hockey girls will be travelling to a school called Badminton for another fixture so wont be at school with us.  Until next time…..ciao x

Hi Mrs Gamiet, Hope you had a very nice trip to the UK. I have been a very good boy today. Miss you, from Shiven.

Chepstow!!!

Hi all

We arrived in chepstow, Wales yesterday…17th Sept.  Its really beautiful here, green green grass and little towns.  The staff and pupils at St Johns are really friendly.  The children spent their first night with their hosts last night and everyone seemed happy.  Hockey girls won 5-o against Clifton and joined us at the ski slopes in gloustershire today.  We also visited the Gloustershire cathedral where most of Harry potter was filmed:)  Everyone is having a great time.  Some children learned a very hard lesson but a very valuable one about travel in the UK..Those who bought “weighty’ bags really really battled. South Africans load bags into cars,,,,the English have to lug their bags with them for long distances from tube station to bus station an so forth,  some of the children with heavy bags really battled!!! Anyway until next time…..ciao x

p.s… please be patient as its REALLY difficult to find internet time!!

To Miss Marshall from your class

We miss you very much! We hope you return early – don’t take the wrong train this time ;-) ). We wish you a nice time and holiday.

Sunday 13/09/09 – Started the Sunday morning by going to see St Paul’s Cathedral. Roxanne will have loads of luck because a pigeon decided to use her backpack as a “toilet”… Onto South Africa house in Trafalgar Square where we sang the National Anthem and Rooi Rok Bokkie / Loslappie… we then had a photo session with the Lions in the Square, even the staff climbed on one of the Lions. Walked down The Mall to The Palace (Buckingham), the flag was flying which tells the public that the Queen is in residence, wanted to see the changing of the guards but they do not do this on a Sunday. The highlight of the day was when Ross Fourie did not want to witness someone taking their clothes off…. From a place of royalty to a place where no royals would go …. CAMDEN TOWN! ?!?! Loads of shopping, bargaining and loads of interesting characters. Luckily no children had tatoos and body piercing done. Took a bus past Lords Cricket Ground to Speakers Corner and watched the matters arise for the Kylie Minogue / Abba concert which was taking place in Hyde Park, where we were. Made our way to Leicester Square, where we had supper. Looking forward to Monday (14/09/09) – London Eye and London Dungeon and off to the West End tonight for the Queen musical “We Will Rock You!” Love and miss you all, till next time, Ciao.

Hi all, arrived safely in London yesterday (11/09/09) and went straight to the “Queen Mary University”, for some of us it took a bit longer than others to get there as we took the wrong train but got to our accommodation eventually :) The bus tour of London was great and we got to see alot of interesting sites. We were all too tired to anything in the evening so decided to have an early night. Today (12/09/09) we went on a river cruise down the Thames which was great! We are all having a wonderful time and things are running smoothly. The weather has been unbelievable and we wish we had brought more SUMMER clothes. Till next time ….. CIAO
